Found the Blog again

OK so I didn't have the Blog since I changed computers but now that I have it, I'll be ore intentional in checking your postings.

So I thought I would post my favorite Oswald Chambers tonight ....just because. There is no hidden 'mom' message directed at anyone in this, yet it is directed to each one. I like it so much because I beleive it is an essential truth. When we try to place anyone (or anything ) on God's altar we will end up disappointed and dispairing. In reverse whenever I find myself dispairing remembering this helps me ask the question-what have I placed on the God's altar to cause this.

It's from July 30th
"The refusal to be disllusioned is the cause of much of the suffering in human life. It works in this way-if we love a human being and do not love God, we demand of him every perfection and every rectitude, and when we do not get it we become cruel and vindictive; we are demanding of a human being that which he or she cannot give. There is only on Being Who can satisfy the last aching abyss of the human heart, and that is the Lord Jesus Christ. Why our Lord is so severe regarding every human relationship is because He knows that every relationship not based on loyalty to Himself will end in disaster. Our Lord trusted no man, yet He was never suspicious, never bitter. Our Lord's confidence in God and in what His grace could do for any man, was so perfect that He despaired of no one. If our trust is placed in human beings (including ourselves) , we shall end in despairing of everyone."

What do you think?

School started...it's good. I really like our new format of learning. It's really independent. It was nice getting to see familiar faces back here once school started, but it's no Ventura or San Diego. miss you all very much. Josh

first chapel

Hey wanted to let you all know that the first chapel went really well. We are going to have a "worship team" with the kids and I had over 15 kids sign up. Actually the ENTIRE 3rd grade signed up. I think this will end up being fun!!! You can keep sending song ideas if you come up with more :)
thanks for the prayers!!!

kids worship songs

So I am leading worship for the 3rd-6th graders. Do you guys remember any of the worship songs you liked at that age? I am looking for fun, but still worship and not too little kid. I got a few but would love more suggestions!

oh and you can be praying for me with this. Leading worship is never something I feel comfortable doing and I never seem to sing loud enough to lead. Hopefully we will have some microphones set up. But pray for a true spirit of worship amongst the kids.

Here are a couple of topics I'm thinking about speaking on next fall at our Christian Medical Organization. What are you thoughts?

Much love,
Josh

On the basics: This is a question for you to exam your own heart and thoughts and I don't want to see a show of hands, but how many of you here think Jesus is really coming back? I mean coming back like when Jesus says in revelation 22:12, Look I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to everyone according to what they have done. And this question is predicated on the fact that Jesus is the Messiah and did rise from death. Not simple questions, but they lay the foundation for whom you will serve.

On deception: I bring these thoughts to you, because in our culture today it is easy to pretend your belief in Christ and possibly deceive yourself. For example, it is easy to go to Church, to obey the rules of our society, and be involved with helping others. All these things Jesus did talk about and are important to the life of a Christian, but if we think this is Christianity...then we are mistaken!

On living: Jesus makes many references to the becoming low as a disciple. Look the Son of God came serving, washing the disciples feet; I tell you the Kingdom of God belongs to children, you must become like children; It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than a rich man to enter the Kingdom. I hope these few examples have convinced you that our life in Christ is contradictory to the prestige and money's we might think we deserve or have earned by becoming physicians in America. We cannot serve two masters!

On education: In an educated society such as ours, it is clear that our theological studies have become dividing points among fellow believers to the point of crippling the effectiveness of the Church. This became apparent last Sunday as I sat and listened to the pastor preach on I Corinthians 12 as a vision for the body of believers. He started at verse 4 and stopped after verse 26, but verses 27 -31 speak about apostles, prophets, teachers and healers and the very important role they play in the Church. It struck me then, that we believe on the Holy Spirit for some things, but not for others. We believe on the Spirit to convict and turn someone to repentance, but deny the Spirit's power to heal or be prophetic. Touchy subjects I know, but they should not be ignored like they were last Sunday.

Saturday, May 17, 2008

I just finished reading this book called Resident Aliens by Stanley Hauerwas and it really challenged some of my and our thinking as the Christian church in a culture such as America, where we have cultural Christianity.  One of his views is that of a pacifist, with the point being, our allegiance to God should come first before our allegiance to a Nation.  This seems like a generally agreeable point, but he gives the example of WWII and fighting against the Nazi's.  As much as the Nazi's were misguided in their cause Hauerwas makes the point that we had American Christians fighting and killing German Christians and vice versa, making the point that the earthly nation had super-ceded the Kingdom of God.  Hauerwas makes the analogy of a Christian fighting for a Nation is like a person fighting for the telephone company.  Your thoughts?

School has started again and all my extracurricular research activities are moving forward.  God is doing a good work in me and I'm going to hang out with the girl from the grocery store today.  Pray for Non-awkwardness.  Haha.  Crazy Love.

God, I ask that you will be with our family today. Thank you for your grace and mercy with us as a family and how you have healed and redeemed so many of the nasty things we have done to eachother. God, help unite us as part of your family -that we may be building eachother up. God as we are so far away physically from eachother, I pray that you will unite us in your spirit, through prayer. Only a God as big as you can build us up, when we are so far away.

God I ask for your protection over mom, dad, ian, cathy, josh, garrett, and collin. Keep them safe Lord. As our hearts seek you, keep our minds and bodies from harm. Grow us all closer to you. May we be a light into the world we are living in, because of our great faith, love and hope in who you are and what you have done.
